WHAT WE ARE
ALL ABOUT
About The Brownsville Wellness Coalition
The Brownsville Wellness Coalition (BWC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving community health throughout Brownsville, Texas, and the Rio Grande Valley. Since 2008, we have worked to address chronic health challenges
by increasing access to nutritious food, providing health education, and creating programs that inspire healthier lifestyles
for individuals and families.
Brownsville, TX faces some of the highest rates of obesity, diabetes, and food insecurity in the nation. Combined with
the economic challenges experienced by many local families, these health disparities highlight the need for lasting,
community-driven solutions.
For more than a decade, BWC has partnered with local organizations, schools, healthcare providers, farmers, businesses,
and community leaders to build a healthier, more resilient community. Through collaboration and innovation, we empower residents with the knowledge, resources, and opportunities they need to live healthier lives.
Our programs, including the Brownsville Farmers Market, community gardens, mobile markets, nutrition education,
cooking classes, and youth entrepreneurship initiatives—help make healthy food more accessible while strengthening
our local food system and supporting local agriculture.
